It just makes sense to take care of our planet, it gives us life and we are not so advanced that we can just forget that or take its gifts for granted. We are part of one big system on this planet and pollution on one side eventually will reach the other, don't crap where you eat, right?

On Sunday April 10th from 9am -4pm, I will be selling my goodies at the Spring Flea Market in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. It will be held at the Bay Ridge Jewish Center. I will be selling items from my "Graze Anatomy" line of products. I have a whole bunch of carnivorous bling including: jewelry, pillows, plates, aprons, wood prints, tote bags, and fridge magnets. There will be over 40 vendors and refreshments so if you're in my neck of the woods come down and check it out!

I've been lucky enough to have a best buddy since childhood. We've been through so many adventures together and it is great to have someone like her around, for the good and bad. We're so much older than our childhood fantasies even imagined we would be, but we're pretty much the same little kids. As a child she had a very independent streak, she drank coffee before bed, rocked the craziest socks and never gave up trying to teach me how to roller blade or various other activities that I'd never master. She taught me so many things that should have been obvious to me and even to this day she resets my frantic calls with her calm counsel.

Time seems to dilute some peoples awesomeness, thinning out there best qualities and leaving just the things necessary to go with the flow. Not Sash, she is still the coolest girl to me. She is everything a heroine should be, wildly adventurous, brave, extremely independent, and a true friend.

holy cajones! Spring is almost here. In brooklyn we've had snow on the ground since december, may not sound strange for some but here it's just bizarre. anyway its almost all gone revealing all the hidden mummified doggie poos that their owners shamefully left behind. it is still bitta cold out & I cover head to toe but the wind still gets me, i wish they still sold those 80's ski masks, do they still sell those? that with some aviator glasses and i'd be set!
Here's wishing a quick spring, a lengthy spring before the hell that is a nyc summer!

True Grit

I remember watching true grit on tv when I was real little. Mattie Ross was one of a handful of strong females running around tv at the time. We had Ripley kicking ass and taking names in Aliens, Helen Slater as billie jean, 9-5 with Lily Tomlin, reruns of the Bionic Woman and the mother of all destiny was just getting her start in the first Terminator, Auntie Entity was running barter town, and we had a whole slew of rockers, bananarama, bangles, Suzanne vega singing a song about Luka that I couldn't quite get. Sinead O'Connor crooning & Cyndi Lauper she bopping. Martina Navratilova ruled the tennis courts, Katerina Witt, W that sounds like a v? Mary Lou Retton flipping on everything possible. I would watch the opening credits of Batman waiting to see if catwoman was featured in the animated intro, if not I'd change the channel
with that huge cable box that had three rows of black buttons and a dial.

I lived down the street from a field where Amelia Earhart took off from and in the 80's it truly seemed like the world had opened up to young women, we could be anything

I have a shop on Etsy with some goodies. I've been working on a private set of illustrations based on my love of farm fresh, grass fed, humanely treated animals. My "Graze Anatomy" series started off as something just for myself, but expanded into a whole herd of products based off these illustrations. So I started an Etsy shop offering proudly carnivorous home decor products and jewelry for the grass-fed fashionista :) I also have some other stuff not related to meaty pastures, but I just thought I'd mention what got me started. So have a gander and perhaps get some brooklyn fresh goodies delivered to your door!

This is the 2nd piece in a series about my recent travels around the US. Chicago is the next stop. It is a wonderful city covered in art and this is what I want to show.

The first non-indigenous person living in the area of Chicago was a guy named Jean Baptiste Point Sable. He was a fur trader that came up the Mississippi from New Orleans, the last city Mika and I had been to, which I thought was pretty cool. Chicago is pretty cool.

It has everything you could want plus an ocean sized lake. Awe inspiring architecture new and old. Streets that have levels! Street level, lower, lowest, how cool is that? Your address could be lowest Wacker Drive, hmm. A river meandering through with plenty of beautiful bridges to cross over and some of those have levels too!

This building has all the cars on the first few floors and then apartments above.Where the trees are is street level. Right below the bottom level is the river which by the way was engineered to flow backwards, a mighty feat!

Music and awesome art museums. I saw this Sargent which is much bigger than I expected. We also caught a wonderful photography exhibit by Henri Cartier Bresson.

This is the largest Tiffany glass dome. The building was a library and is now the Chicago Cultural Center. It is covered in exquisite mosaics with quotes from great thinkers and in all different languages. As you walk through the walls glisten. It is splendid… and it’s free!

The public works were just great and so is the public transportation!

The Bean, just standing under that thing… trippy.

I felt like every block had at least one piece of public art small or ginormous.

Not all of it might have been approved by the city council but all of it was interesting.

I live in Brooklyn, which is on an island, and although I never think of myself as an island girl I guess I am. Living far from the ocean is a strange thought to me and I feel pretty lucky to live in such a nice area so close to the water. I suppose this is also one of the reasons I liked Chicago so much. It is such a terrific city dripping with art plus the water is right there. so cool

New Orleans

This is my love note to New Orleans. Mwaa! It is first in a series about my recent adventures around the US.

New Orleans. The city itself is beautiful, all the buildings, the colors and the music but it’s really the people that make it great. My favorite times were when we’d turn a corner and there were some kids playing beat up old instruments, instant street party. It’s kinda like that Young Einstein movie, you just can’t help but tap your toes and shake your ass :) soon enough you’re a part of whatever is going on. This is the biggest thing I took from my trip: the sheer joy, having fun with whoever happens to be around you, the conversation between the musicians and the audience, music being the great equalizer, and a city very much alive and relevant, that is what I tried to express with this piece

My first day I traveled solo. I visited some cemeteries, which might not be so neat on your own especially with these creepy huge statues that spooked me out every now and then. I noticed over and over again this strange trend of carving someone’s name into the family stone with their birth date – and an empty spot waiting to be filled, yikes! The only thing I could come up with is that they got some sort of discount with the last burial and said, "what the hell! put uncle frank on too, he’s almost dead!"

Who dat? We dat! I had no idea what this meant before my trip or that New Orleans is actually Nawlins. Everywhere I went everyone was wearing the Saints uniform. Turns out it was the first game of the new season and they just won the superbowl last year. It’s a super big deal, there was a parade and general madness!

Mika, my PIC, joined me on my second day and yanked me out of all the dead cities and tossed me into the music halls.

I would like to thank the fantastic couple we stayed with. They are so generous and hospitable with a beautiful home and a terrific introduction to New Orleans.

Rally to Restore Sanity

Jon Stewart is holding a march in Washington D.C., the Rally to Restore Sanity, on 10•30•10.

James Lake and I will be attending. I don't now yet if I will be in the restore sanity crowd or the counter rally, Keep fear alive, depends on our mood, but i am sure it will be a wonderful day :)

Hope you can come... peter pan bus lines is 30 smackers round trip from nyc, which compared to the $50 the mothership paid for the One Nation rally just last weekend seems like a pretty good deal!

p.s. Mika and I just returned from our great American tour so i am sure there will soon be some travel inspired posts.

My neighbor and friend, Hannah, has a wonderful blog about the wonderful world of traditional foods! These are her delicious coconut honey penguins. sO yummy, this little guy was dispatched immediately after the photo was taken. I tried to get a photo with the glass still frosted so you couldn't see that I have already eaten most of these little guys, o' well.

She has some traditional foods available on her site for folks in our area of Bay ridge Brooklyn. I have also had the pâté and bone broth, both equally scrumptious! So check her out!

I just saw U2 in 3D and it was awesome! This 3D technology is so new that they where still inventing new ways of filming while they shot this movie. It really does feel like you are right there in the show and when Bono looks or reaches out into the audience it really is quite unnerving and exciting! I recommend anyone go see the movie/show to see bono leap off the screen!

This was done for a story about a special interest group for real christmas trees and their attempts to rid the world of fakes. The story is true, my depiction maybe not so much :)
I thought this was good for Illustration friday because trees grow and then we whack um down.

so this is about as late as you can get without being early for this fridays topic, anywho... i never know what to make of those wonderful sultry jazz singers that turn out to be 5 years old, al la christina aguilera, they are good but do they really have anything to be singing the blues about? and wasn't 'hurt' a much better and sincere song after johnny cash got a hold of it? so here is my blues-ee band trying to figure out what happened.

This was done for a short story on artificial intelligence, mostly on how machines are starting to think more like humans, and vice versa. The Art Director just sent me a copy of one of the issues I am in and the magazine is big and beautiful. :)

This is for a short story about a lady who can talk to animals dead or alive. I am learning all kinds of stuff because the dog in the story is an American Spitz which i can now point out in the street! getting smarter everyday :)

P.S. my scanner just broke, anybody recommend a good scanner?
